1. Cap
M1941 wool knit cap with short visor designed to be worn under the steel helmet. Commonly known as the "Jeep Cap" (on the photo - left).
Standard issued to all troops in the Army from mid-1942. Wool knit visorless cap (A-4 Mechanic's), on the photo right, intended for issue to
aircraft mechanics. These are often associated with US paratroopers who tended to "acquire" them from the Air Corps personnel and wear them
in lieu of the jeep cap. Although officially an Air Corps item, in reality, it's certain that a few of these could have ended up on the heads
of any troops in the ETO.
2. Sweater
GI 5-button Sweater is recommended.
3. Gloves
GI Gloves, Wool with Leather Palms and wool inserts are recommended.
4. Winter "Pile" hat
For cold weather the M-1943 Field Cap was inadequate. The "Cap, Field, Pile, OD" consisted of a wind resistant, water repellant olive drab
poplin outer shell with a pile lining and ear flaps for warmth (photo, left).
5. Jacket hoods
M1941 Field Jacket (left) and M1943 Field Jacket Hood (right). Both are recommended.
6. Scarf
7. Raincoat and poncho
Early WWII US Army Rubberized Poncho (left) or M1938 Dismounted Raincoat (right) is recommended.
8. Overcoat
The Army adopted a new model of enlisted overcoat in 1939, with a long split up the back to accomodate both mounted and dismounted troops.
Either overcoat with brass or plastic buttons.
9. Overshoes
Standard wartime economy pattern canvas and rubber overshoes issued 1942-44.
10. Shoepack
Original US Army winter boots.
